About Ali

I am a recent graduate from the Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Textiles at the University of Technology, Sydney. Taught to sew at a very young age by my mother, I have always favoured bright colour palettes, bold silhouettes and a retro aesthetic. I love to travel and am often inspired by cities around the world.

Before starting my degree, my work was featured in a fashion show at the National Gallery of Australia, held in conjunction with the Vivienne Westwood exhibiton. In 2009, my garment produced from Ripcurl’s neoprene off-cuts and post-consumer waste was included in an exhibition at UTS held during RAFW. For the past two years I have worked as a design assistant to Kylie Hawkes. At my graduate fashion show I received an award from the NSW Business Chamber and the Discipline Award from the Co-op Bookshop. I was also selected to show my graduate collection at iD Dunedin Fashion Week in April.

I am now working on setting up my own label, Bell Street and heading back to uni to do a Masters in Secondary Teaching.
