Kate's vintage wedding dress re-make - 2015

Kate came to me with her mother's vintage lace wedding dress from 1986, wondering if there was any way she could wear it herself on her wedding day. The skirt fitted her well, but the top was too small and not her style. In addition, the lining fabric was of poor quality and uncomfortable to wear.

Luckily, the top of the dress had so much lace in it that I was able to use it to make an entirely new top for Kate. I took out the original white lining of the dress and made a new ivory lining (the lace had aged to an off-white colour). I added a wide waistband and also removed some rust stains from the skirt.

The old lace was carefully cut into pieces and placed in a way that allowed best use of the flower motifs and scalloped border. The lace was then stitched to the bodice by hand.

I love working on special sentimental projects like this and I am so happy with how the dress turned out!

"The day was a huge success. The dress was beautiful and my mum loved it!!! I have attached a few photos of mum on her wedding day and a few from our wedding day. Thanks again for everything you did!"
